The world of envelope manufacturing is an ever-changing place. There is over 650 billion envelopes produced world wide and 80 nations account for about 90 percent of the envelopes produced. In some of these nations, the envelope market is growing dramatically and in others, the market is growing slightly or has flattened. The envelope manufacturing industry has become more diverse in terms of the products it manufactures. Envelope manufacturers across the globe have the same equipment and many of the same challenges. The Internet has brought our industry closer together and since 1993, EMA has welcomed envelope manufacturers from across the globe into the association. The Global Envelope Alliance (GEA) was created to develop a forum for the global community of envelope manufacturers, suppliers, posts, courier companies and market intermediaries to use in gathering more information about global trends and working together in a global community to promote a stronger industry worldwide.

The Global Envelope Alliance was founded in 2005 with the following objectives:

1.To promote the interests of the envelope manufacturing industry to global postal and regulatory bodies, standards organizations and any other organization critical to the success of the industry throughout the world.

2.To provide a forum for the discussion of common problems and to determine the best course of action for solving those problems on a global basis.

3.To provide its members with accurate information and statistics on the global industry, the posts, the impact of technology and other trend information.
